Corruption often goes hand in hand with fame. I was quite excited to create this piece, showing the singers taking their rightful earnings BACK from their devious boss. The original version of this song was performed by The Marvelettes, but my faves are by Blondie and Massive Attach ft. Tracey Thorn. The shoot started off with a different energy where the boys were dancing in the dressing room, and Mr. D, my forever trusting soundboard saw this image and thought it to be undeniably sexy, so that’s where I went. A wipeout. Done it many times, thankfully not on stage often … Sheer exhaustion from something that you love to do is hard for some people to understand. The song, written for Cher, in her mid 70s full on Bob Mackie glory. Nerve-racking to any artist, not matter how adjusted to the process. The original idea I had morphed into this moment. I love the different choices of each of the girls trying to wow their potential boss. The role reversal was a creative choice that shone more light than I had anticipated. This piece is a tribute to my mom, the original back up singer (to me at least). The dress is one of hers from the 60s and that is pretty much how she wore her hair. The song was one that my parents performed in their band The Unpredictables, a few years before I was born. This night was a riot shooting these girls, so many great expressions reflecting that endless waiting period between sound check and the show.
