(featuring Lexi Sanfino and Judy Virago) | ![]() SOMEBODY ELSE IS IN MY PLACE36x36 Print on Plexiglas 1/1 © 2014 "Los Coristas" series 1500$. Oh, the strong back up singer who keeps getting a hand in the face from the diva star. Too many stories to tell. Too many green rooms and dressing rooms guard the secrets of dreams never quite fulfilled. My favourite interpretation of this song is by The Andrew Sisters (featuring Andrya Duff, Lucy Rupert, Allyson McMackon) | ![]() GET OUT OF MY WAY48x32 Print on Metal 1/1 © 2014 "Los Coristas" series (SOLD). It is a gift to have contemporaries who posses complete abandon. This piece, based on a song by Kylie Minogue, shows a bit of the diverse choices singers make at the 5-minute call. ![]() BE MY BABY36x48 Print on Plexiglas 1/1 © 2014 "Los Coristas" series 1500$. One of the first images of the series, featuring the amazing Kirstin Rae Hinton and her brand new boy Gryphon. The idea had simply popped into my head that, in the 50s and 60s, women in the industry with families probably didn’t have a lot of support… The song was performed by The Ronettes. (featuring Kirstin, Gryphon and Jason Jazrawy) | ![]() I HEARD A RUMOUR48x36 Print on Plexiglas 1/1 © 2014 "Los Coristas" series 1500$. A song by Bananarama. I love the contrasts in this image. The showgirl disrobing resonates on so many levels for me…mostly, the magic disappearing… the mask coming off. (featuring Tracy Ulicny and Robin Hagen each in 2 positions) | ![]() KEEP IT TOGETHER48x32 Print on Plexiglas 1/1 © 2014 "Los Coristas" series (SOLD) The contrast of emotions that performers go through before going on stage to do the same job is broad. Many a time I’ve been in complete distress while everyone else is having a ball. This song is by Madonna and the image captures the energy of two of her more famous back up singers: Donna Delory and Niki Haris. (featuring Cat Nimmo and Jen Hughes) |
![]() THE HUNTER GETS CAPTURED BY THE GAME36x48 Print on Plexiglas 1/1 © 2014 "Los Coristas" series (SOLD). As an artist of many devices, the imbalance of fortune has not eluded me. Corruption often goes hand in hand with fame. I was quite excited to create this piece, showing the singers taking their rightful earnings BACK from their devious boss. The original version of this song was performed by The Marvelettes, but my faves are by Blondie and Massive Attach ft. Tracey Thorn. (featuring Andrea Rocca and Pat Allanach) | ![]() EVEN THOUGH YOU CAN'T DANCE48x36 Print on Plexiglas 1/1 © 2014 "Los Coristas" series 1500$. I fell in love with this song when it was used in the opening credits of one of my favourite Canadian movies of all time, Blood & Donuts. My initials appear in all the images somewhere, in this case on the microphone. You’ll have to search pretty hard to find them in all of the images. (featuring Dean Hayze, Oranmiyan Ajagundade, and Mic Dainjah) |
![]() MA!, HE'S MAKING EYES AT ME32x48 Print on Plexiglas 1/1 © 2014 "Los Coristas" series 1500$. The 30s have always fascinated me. This quite simply captures a moment I’ve dreamed of. The shoot started off with a different energy where the boys were dancing in the dressing room, and Mr. D, my forever trusting soundboard saw this image and thought it to be undeniably sexy, so that’s where I went. Eddie Cantor sings about a man being ‘awfully nice to him.... (featuring Sebastian Marzieli, Matthew Singh, Michael Demski) | ![]() TAKE ME HOME48x36 Print on Metal 1/1 © 2014 "Los Coristas" series 1700$. A wipeout. The song, written for Cher, in her mid 70s full on Bob Mackie glory. (featuring Tracy Ulicny in all four positions) | ![]() WHAT'S IT GONNA BE?48x32 Print on Plexiglas 1/1 © 2014 "Los Coristas" series (SOLD). The audition. Nerve-racking to any artist, not matter how adjusted to the process. The original idea I had morphed into this moment. I love the different choices of each of the girls trying to wow their potential boss. The role reversal was a creative choice that shone more light than I had anticipated. (featuring Shanna Miller, Alex Tigchelaar, Celine Rouzaud and Onyx Uriarte) |
![]() UPSIDE DOWN48x32 Print on Plexiglas 1/1 © 2014 "Los Coristas" series (SOLD). A song by Diana Ross. Gillian put out bigtime in helping grab that early 80s excess. I wanted to create a piece with a modern star up front and back up singers, not allowed to be quite as current, stuck in silhouette (featuring Gillian Margot) | ![]() SAN FRANCISCO BAY BLUES36x48 Print on Plexiglas 1/1 © 2014 "Los Coristas" series 1500$. This piece is a tribute to my mom, the original back up singer (to me at least). The dress is one of hers from the 60s and that is pretty much how she wore her hair. The song was one that my parents performed in their band The Unpredictables, a few years before I was born. (featuring Jennifer Rowsom) | ![]() UP THE LADDER TO THE ROOF32x48 Print on Plexiglas 1/1 © 2014 "Los Coristas" series 1500$. Originally sung by The Supremes, but I’d have to say my preferred version is by The Nylons, from an album that my parents played tons when I was a kid. This night was a riot shooting these girls, so many great expressions reflecting that endless waiting period between sound check and the show. (featuring Dorota Buczel, Onyx Uriarte and Annastasia Cucullo) |
![]() WATCH YOUR STEP36x40 Print on Plexiglas 1/1 © 2014 "Los Coristas" series (SOLD). This Bobby Parker song features the coolest call and response backing vocals.
